The rain that we have been having in Pennsylvania has really been cramping my desire to get up and go. I think that it has rained nine out of the last ten days. Work has been super busy, which is nothing new, but when it is so gloomy it just makes a person tired!
This past weekend, I ran the Pittsburgh Marathon Relay with my cousins. I only had to do 6.2 miles, so don't feel bad for me. I had a really fun time. Owen ran a WHOLE mile in the kid's marathon. Great job, buddy! I have to say that running along the marathoners from miles 15 to 21 really inspired me. Perhaps enough to do it next year???
I got my new bee hive in the mail a few weeks ago. I will be prepping that over the next few days. The plethora of information that is out there on being a beekeeper is amazing in itself, but also so confusing at times. Every beekeeper has his/her own opinion. It seems that there is no "right" way to do something. I am one of those people who wants to do things the right way all of the time, so this gives me a little anxiety! My plan is to just put linseed oil on the hive, instead of painting it. The first reason is that I really don't want it to draw attention to itself. The second reason is that I think that the look of natural wood would just fit the surroundings.
I just mailed my subscription for my CSA (community supported agriculture). This will be the first year that I am doing it. It is hopefully going to be a good way to get lots of organic produce, try out new recipes (if one particular veggie grows really well in a given season -- there will be more of it), and just eat healthier. Since I am doing the CSA, I have been checking out a lot of websites and books on canning and preserving. I canned pickles last year and hot peppers the year before. They both turned out great! It is intimidating at first, but anyone can do it...and it's not too different from my day job. Plus, if you really think about it, canning tomatoes that were grown fresh on a vine and putting them in a glass jar sounds much better to me than buying a can of tomatoes that have a plastic lining that is laced with all kinds of crap. Just my two cents. I have had luck in finding BPA-free lids and jars that have rubber rings that really don't come into contact with the food. I'll be pinning all of that stuff on Pinterest. How addictive/great is that website? I can now decrease my favorites list by at least 100 sites!
I guess that I have been busy and somewhat productive, just not finishing things. My mom claims to have counted 15 projects around my house that are in various stages. Funny, because those are only the ones that she saw (insert evil laugh here).

I'd love to hear how it goes with your CSA. We haven't joined one of those, but frequent the farmers' markets around here, including ones that have free range/grass fed beef and chicken eggs. There is a cutting flower CSA a little too far away from me that I would love to join!
ReplyDeleteI am excited. The owner sends a list each week of the extra produce that she has, including milk and eggs. I will let you know how it goes. And, a fresh new bouqet of flowers every week would be awesome!
